Creatives

We support and embrace the arts in every way imaginable. We are grateful to call many filmmakers, musicians, designers, visual artists and their creative endeavors our clients. We have handled a broad range of matters in this regard, from drafting and negotiating talent contracts and distribution agreements to handling complex financing and licensing arrangements. Our practice also counsels filmmakers around the country in clearance matters on their projects, with a discrete focus on documentary filmmaking. For many years, we have drafted and negotiated recording, publishing, management, distribution, touring, merchandising, licensing, partnership and internet agreements, and have created and implemented complex and nuanced strategies to help our clients protect their intellectual property rights in the U.S. and around the world.

When it comes to the arts, we are all in. Our attorneys regularly attend conferences, fairs, shows and other events in support of the robust artistic communities in Chicago, Miami, New York, and elsewhere around the United States. Vivek Jayaram, the firm’s founder, is an adjunct professor at the University of Miami Law School’s Art LLM program, the first and only program of its kind in the United States. There, Mr. Jayaram teaches law school graduates from around the world about intellectual property litigation as it relates to entertainment and art law.

We understand creative people, and we enjoy advising them, in part because we are creatives ourselves (our team includes a musician, a dancer, a graphic designer and a comedian). We get that a traditional legal approach might not make sense for your creative endeavors, and so we do what we can to release our clients from the strictures of outdated legal practices and help them do what they do best – create and innovate.
